Do you use Footnote? I was debating whether to subscribe to it earlier this week.

I have Footnote but it is still early. There is a lot of information available but not what I need. They are growing daily though.

I used to subscribe to several databases but I've let them all lapse. There is just so much on the web for free now that I can make progress on lines by contacting other people researching the same family. Still if I hit another solid brick wall and nobody else in the "group" has a subscription to something, I might give it a shot!

It's amazing how many researchers are online nowadays to share info with.

I understand - it's hard to subscribe to them all - between subscriptions and requests for donations for causes, a person could end up without a penny to their name. When the time comes for me to retire, I will have to think about priorities.

That being said, subscriptions help finance the on-going digiizing and indexing of records although I think volunteers assist in the indexing. Some indexing can be done with software but even then someone had to write the code.
