On Scott Common Sense there is a tip to use a brewed coffee grounds solution (a solution of one part coffee and four parts cool water) on your plants roots once a week. This sounds like a very economical tip - what food do you use for your plants.

I've been using a box of Miracle-Gro I got at a huge discount 4 years ago. It's not the best fertilizer out there, but it does make most of my orchids bloom and my foliage plants go crazy.

I also like to mix into my irrigation water a little magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) and SuperThrive. The MgSo4 helps plants photosynthesize more efficiently and who knows what the SuperThrive does! I've been meaning to do a small controlled study on it to see if it has any actual benefits.

Lisa Beth - it sounds like you have it all figured out. I liked the Scott Common Sense tip because it was very cost effective and easy to do since I make coffee every morning. I will let you know how it works out for me.
