In my new article Respect your Creativity (in order for other people to respect it too.)... I'm ranting a bit about how other people just EXPECT your time.

What excuses have you used to end a too-long, saying-nothing-much phone call???

We can consciously express our creativity in everything we do - do you agree? I mean, it doesn't have to be a painting or piece of prose. It can be anything if we think about it in that way.

Do you write poetry?

I completely agree. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you put your heart into and enjoy what you are doing.

Both my sister and I hate phone calls, needless to say ours are very short! We also respect our right to be alone at times (I'm the worst of the two of us). So when we're ready to end our visit or our calls, we just say, "I love you but we need to hang up now" or "I love you but you need to go home now." LOL -- Our kids think we're weird, but it works for us

First of all, I don't answer morning calls. That's my writing time. And I edit my work between 1 and 3. So those times are out for calls.
The rest of the time I set a timer -- 5 minutes. if it can't be said in 5, I'm bored.
Everybody I know knows how I am. Pity the poor telemarketer!

That is so great, Sheryl. And it's wonderful the way you've 'trained' your friends and family to accept it.

It could be washing up or ironing or cleaning the house or gardening or any number of things. We all find creativity in different things. Yay for us!

I end long winded, non productive phone calls by not participating in them in the first place. LOL. I always tell everyone--email me. I used the phone to catch up on people I haven't spoken to in a really, really long time and to talk to my mother, who is no-nonsense when it comes to the phone.

In terms of considering all that we do with passion our art, I so agree! I'm noticing that even a verabatim Q and A interview can be an artistic endeavor. When I go to edit and decide what questions stay, what questions go, where to cut, what to write for the narrative to introduce the interview subject--that's all art. Editing is an art I'm noticing.
