I was reading the material in the meal planners and ran across the statement that we should use chunk lite tuna not White albacore...I'm sure there's a good reason, but can't think of one. Anyone help here?

It could be about sodium content. I've often heard its best to use the tuna in spring water rather than oil.

I cover that here -

Tuna and Health

"Many women eat tuna as part of their daily diet, but albacore tuna can have 3 times as much mercury in it as light tuna. Women paying more for the expensive albacore, thinking it is better, are actually increasing their mercury levels. The panel recommends only eating light tuna once a week, and wants the albacore tuna put on the 'caution' list along with other high mercury fish such as swordfish, shark, tilefish and king mackerel."

Hmmmm guess I'm one of those that can live on tuna. I bought the chunk light oil pack today....had one already. Guess the next one goes to next week.

It depends on who you read - some say one can a week, others say two cans a week is fine. The thing is not to eat it DAILY which can build up mercury in your system. Balance is key.

I called my doctor..and she says no more than 2. Since I've been doing 4 or more a week for more than forever she's sending me a script to have a blood test done for mercury levels. Can't be too careful

That sounds VERY good to get tested. It's always good to know. Mercury does not "leave" your body - it accumulates over time and starts to affect your health. It's great that you talked with your doctor about this!!
