Do you maintain a regular writing schedule? What are your guidelines?

I tend to write full-time for about eight+ hours a day but I think I need to put more parameters on my schedule because I tend to neglect my fiction and do more research than writing.

For me, a writing schedule is a must. Otherwise, I'd get nothing done.

My writing schedule is based on a daily word goal rather than hours per day. I've tried it both ways but this works best for me. Sometimes I reach my goal early and I can move on to research, more writing (if I'm in a groove), or non-writing tasks like paying bills and walking the dog.
