I am almost 2 weeks post surgery. A surgery that I have needed for some time. Last year (o.k. I guess that would year before last) I resolved myself to the fact that I needed the surgery, didn't have health insurance, and would have to come up with the money on my own. I found that the medical providers weren't very nice to me (as a self-pay). But this time around-I had my insurance card and received the best treatment. Follow-up calls after I returned home, Has anyone been in this situation? or my previous situation? how did you handle it? would you do anything different?

I haven't. But I do know as more and more people lose their jobs and don't have health insurance, the medical providers will still need to care for people. Almost 3 million people unemployed, that's a huge number!
I'm wondering what effect the recession will have on the medical profession. I think it's a no - win situation.
But I must say, I had a family member that was sick and she went to a hospital without insurance and she actually got really good care. She was very fortunate. Sometimes, I think it's that particular doctor or a particular hospital ...hit or miss in terms of getting good service without insurance.
