Hi Colleen,

I have just two words to say about the economy. "It Sucks". Since gas has risen to more than $4.00 per gallon, it is like a domino effect and prices have risen for everything. Increased gas prices caused increase in food prices, utilities have increased about 14% etc. I don't know how we are going to recover. For those people who work for minimum wage of $5.35 per hour, If they have a 15 gallon tank (small car), they have to work 2 full days to buy one tank of gas and one gallon of milk. This is ridiculous.

You are so right! and it doesn't look like it will get better anytime soon. I wonder how we will recover, also. People are being layed off or going out of business, gas prices have sky rocketed, homeowners insurance has doubled, and taxes are outrageous.

I wonder everyday what is going to happen.

I see you live in FL where there is a RN storage. I f need be you could work OT I'm sure that there is plently. i know when they say that the recession hasn't healthcare that BS. I'm an unemployed respitatory therapist in PA with 20 years experience who can't find full time work.

You are right the aniexty of not knowing what is going to happen is a side effect of a f@#k-up economy. Good Luck! and my prayers are with you.

Hi Chlomea,

I had wondered about that. The gov't has tried to pass off that the health industry is booming, thus, go back to school, get a degree and jobs are multiplying. It's not lining up with what I'm picking up.

I do feel there will be a need for more workers in the health industry with the effects of revamping health care, but it feels as if, and I have no facts to base this on, that they are down sizing the well-paying positions and having people piggy back responsabilities - take on more than one specialty. Then the feeling is that, the news of "more jobs" opens, BUT, they will be hourly positions which will as well have criss-cross responsabilities.

The thing is, the people they get in there wont be the specialists they once had, so I see a great deal of lawsuits headed that way as well.

I'm not sensing the economy gets better anytime soon, but it will get better.

I almost feel compelled to tell people, work where you will be the most happy not the most wealthy, even if it's a step down. There is more than one way to get paid.

I work as a travel nurse and I have worked in several areas of the US. The one thing that I have found, is that the "Nursing Shortage" seems to be more of a regional thing. There is differently a shortage in the health industry, but hospitals are either cutting back or simply freezing jobs. Currently, I'm very lucky, I work full time at one place and pick up per diem at another. I also started an online business too help increase our families income. I love what I do and I love the travel. I have met some really wonderful people along the way. We just have to hang in there. Nurses are a force of nature, and if we would ever come together as one, we would be unstoppable. Anyway, good luck in the coming year.
