Congratulations on graduating! I'm a new editor, too. I also had two children in special education. One had a severe case of MPSII. The other, within normal IQ range, was mainstreamed with only two RSP classes.

I do have questions regarding the laws about special education for students who have graduated. Someone told me that they still are eligible for some services through age 22. Is this true?

Lori,

Thanks for the congrats.

As far as your question about special ed. services after graduation, yes they CAN be eligable for services until 21 actually, however I believe that the way that the law is worded is "graduation or 21 years of age".
There should be a section in the IEP called "Transition". By law that has to be IN PLACE in the IEP by the day of their 16th birthday. Within that section, they are supposed to develop a plan for post high school life. One of the issues they are supposed to deal with is getting the family information on other available services.
I am actually attending a workshop right now about transition. I am learning a lot more about transition and available services. I will get back to you with additional information as I gather it.

Thanks for the question.

Diane
