When I was a teenager I used to use codes in my diary because I was paranoid about my parents finding my diary. Now that I'm an adult I have NO idea what those codes meant!!

Does anybody use codes? What do you do about the "now even I don't know what I was saying" problem?

My friend and I used to exchange letters in a coded alphabet we created based on Tolkien's elvish letters in his Lord of the Rings books. :-)

I kept a keycode in my drawer of "important things" in my desk but for awhile I could very ably "read" the coded language.

That's a cool idea, Angela, to have a keycode. I should have done that!

That is really neat, to have elvish script codes!

I'll have to do an article about coding diaries and post the legend for everyone - it really made for a very cool looking journal entry. :-)

When I was a teenager my bff and I used to have a notebook that we passed back and forth writing letters to each other in code so no one would know the identity of the boys we liked.

But as an adult I've never coded anything in my journal other than using abbreviations, but that's more for my convenience. I always think that if someone reads something in my diary that they don't like, oh well, they shouldn't have read it in the first place. LOL.

I definitely agree with you Leah - I write completely honestly now as an adult. It's almost a shame that teens have to hide their thoughts because they don't feel safe ...
