There's an excellent book that is now out of print, but can be found in libraries, eBay & Amazon (used) called "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" by Elaine Gottschall. It is a dietary regiment aimed at healing Crohn's. Most of the book is recipes--so it's a short read; but it was incredible information. Granted, it could take years of this diet to heal completely--but no steroids.
We've found that mainstream doctors simply won't accept the possibility of natural methods. I have a diagnosed insulin condition that was treated with a prescription for a number of years, but after my son was born and I was nursing I found a DO that knew of a natural supplement that has for the last 4 years been controlling my insulin better than the prescription ever did. So since the initial diagnosis, I have been under treatment either through traditional Rx or this supplement--but at the moment, it's the supplement.
I had 4 doctors tell me that since there was only one blood test that showed a definite issue (the initial one) that there was no way I actually had a problem since every subsequent insulin level was in the "okay" range. Forget that I was medicated--I'm "not medicated" now and my levels are perfect. None would listen. Four of them.
I would get on the Crohn's message boards and see if they have any input. I might also check mothering.com/discussions and see if one of their message boards has input since they are a holistic community overall.
