Have you ever tried just a plain onion sandwich? I like sliced onions, a little mayo and pepper on bread - very good!

I love onions but I have to say I never tried a plain onion sandwich but I will give it a go some day.
Not really a far stretch since I put onions almost all my sandwiches and sauteed are the best (can eat them right out of the pan without anything else)!

I love onion sandwhichs, i usually only use white or spanish onion for them. I also like to use a hot dog bun (ww) and lots of light maoynaise. I chop my onion up though.

I haven't tried that one but it sounds yummy. I used to hate onions but in the last few years, my taste buds have decided to not only embrace them but celebrate them. I just love them now and put them in almost everything.
Thanks for the sandwich suggestion!

Couldn't resist this post because my husband's uncle flew in from Texas and he told me that one of his favorite sandwiches is an onion sandwich. I love tomato sandwiches myself, but because I do love onions, I tried an onion sandwich too.
The only thing is that onions can be strong and acidic so I recommend using Vidalia sweet or mild red onions. Peel and soak in either milk or water to remove some of the bitterness. At least for a half hour but some restaurants soak onions overnight.
Thinly sliced onions, mayo, salt and pepper. Sometimes, toasted bread. Good. But I think it's better when the onion doesn't take centerstage. *shrug* Just my own tastes, I guess...

Tomato sandwiches are great too. I made some as an appetizer for a get together last weekend and they were a huge hit. Maybe next time I'll add some onion to the tomato sandwich.

Mmmmmm......onion sandwiches.
Here are some great onions for onion sandwiches when you slice them REALLY thin - Vidalia, Walla Walla, Maui, Imperial, Carzalia, or Texas Spring sweet onions.
Some people cut off the crusts or even cut their bread into rounds to fit the onions. They spread the inside of the sandwich with a mayo/mustard mix then, spread some extra mayo on the outside edges of the sandwich. THEN, they roll the "wet" mayo edges in chopped, fresh parsley or basil and set in the refrigerator for a bit so that the parsley kind of sets up. YUMMMMMMMmmmmmm.....
Thank you for bringing back that memory...
