Melissa, our cat editor, has some fun ideas for frugal gifts for the kitties in your life - or for the cat-lovers you know!

For my cats, I love growing catnip and giving it to them. My cats LOVE catnip, it's super cheap to grow, and nothing makes them happier smile

Here's Melissa's ideas!

Thank you for posting this, Lisa! ^..^

The above article is mostly for the cat lovers in your life, but I am planning an article on frugal gifts for the kitties in your life as well.

My cats love catnip too. I've never tried growing it, but we do buy catnip for our fur-babies. I don't have too much luck growing anything, but maybe one day I will try growing some catnip.

When we adopted one of our kitties, Sophie Creamsicle (bottom left in my avatar), her foster mom sent home some homemade catnip squares. Cloth squares sewn together with catnip inside - and all our cats love them!

Catnip grows here like weeds, it turns into huge bushes smile I would definitely give it a try!

I give the kitties in my life a gift of a turkey or ham dinner with a jar of baby food meat (Gerber is free of salt, preservatives and any added onion or garlic--read labels)--costs less than a dollar and they ADORE it!

I bought a bag of dried catnip from the pet shop and filled the toes of old socks with it, then knotted the end. 3 of my 4 cats were very satisfied with that. The fourth is sharper than the others and went straight to the source - I found her in my room later with the remains of the bag all over the floor!

Hello All,

Our cats love anything that moves. It is so much fun watching them chase after the colored lights that some laser lights make. We drag the laser all over the house, and they go crazy chasing it. We even show the lights on the ceiling, and they climb to the highest point on their cat tree to paw at them. They also love to attack blankets. Just about anything can be a toy to them.

My cats love catnip and the laser lights. Boxes too give them great pleasure. and ugh... a stray fly that gets in gives them hours of entertainment.

Dear WalkingGranny,

Our cats go wild after laser lights. Boxes and bags are a joy for them. Talk about insects! Puma goes on the hunt for them. We get such a kick out of her doing that. She loves to paw at them. Whenever Puma or Pharoah sees some bug flying or not on the window, they go crazy.

Dear WalkingGranny,

We find ourselves watching our cats more than we do television. Come to think about it, there should be a Cat reality show featuring the best of cat videos. I am sure it would be much better than the other reality shows.

Dear WalkingGranny,

Is that show on Animal Planet? Do your cats react to it? Another toy for Pharoah is the mirror. I saw a documentary on PBS about cats, and the narrator said cats will fight themselves in the mirror. They can't smell through the mirror so they don't recognize themselves. That's Pharoah. We even go up to the mirror and wave at him. We'll hold him, kiss him, and pet him in the mirror. You should see his reaction. He isn't fighting himself so much anymore. Now watch, he'll probably combat himself in the mirror tonight. :-)
