It seems that teens and young adults are naturally curious about all things supernatural, and combine that with a love story...... well....!

Went to the library to ask for Eclipse, and there was a waiting list! I might not read all of it, but I would like to sample a few chapters, just to see what all the teen/goth/emo fuss is about! Also, how strongly the relationship dysfunction is portrayed for teens reading the book.

I read Twilight -- just finished it. I'm not impressed. I think the writing could have been tightened up quite a bit to go from 500 down to about 300-350 pages.
Age appropriate: 10 years and up, I'd say. Vampires aren't new to kids -- example: Count Chocula Cereal and the Goosebumps books. And there didn't seem to be anything overly sexual in the book.
No plans to read the rest of the series.

Yes, I think my daughter will demolish this book in one sitting! Still, when they're studying hard and studying more classical novels, sometimes it does no harm to let them read 'a little light entertainment' book for a change. Apparently, everyone! she knows wants the AMAZON EXCLUSIVE! Twilight Limited Edition Official Complete Jewelry Set of the Cullen Family - actually, it does look quite pretty. I wonder if Stephenie Meyer would finish 'Midnight Sun' if they offered to make a movie out of it?

I'm reading it right now, and I like it so more than likely I will read the other 3. I have not seen the movie, don't want to spoil it want to finish the book first.

Yes, LOL, I always think that's the right way round... books first, movie last !

Make sure to add Stephenie Meyer's short story to your wish list (yes, she did write one! I just wrote an article about 'Prom Nights From Hell' and was just about to post the link!

There ....

Hi, everyone. Just wanted to chime in. My daughter (age 13) is absolutely obsessed with this whole series but get this. She's read it over three times but every time, she's talking with her friends and they all critique it so harshly with statements like "this sucks" or "why do I do this to myself" yet, they had me take them all (10 girls mind you), to see the movie of which I enjoyed.

My daughter was like "mom, you don't get it. you'd have to read the book and then you would say the movie sucked" I just smiled but let them all know that movies never do books justice. I used to be a Stephen King fan and they did movies on his books and just totally made a mess of 'em. (I think).

Anyway, she enjoyed the first book but this recent one, that we had to sit in a Barnes and Noble for several hours until finally at midnight the book boy brought 'em out and the girls literally attacked him like crazy, this particular book she despises yet craves at the same time. For a whole week after reading it, she carried it around with her with this sneaky smile on her face like Linus with his blanket.

Once, my lil' son (age 10) hid it from her and boy, the house was in uproar until he finally came clean and told her and boy did she let him have it. He just walked off giggling. crazy Hubbie and I were looking at each other confused. confused Then he says to me, "and I thought you were crazy about Y&R but this takes the cake." I guess, we have a family of obsessions.
It's like an addiction you wanna give up but are too drawn in. Go figure.

My oldest daughter (1st year in college), she says Stephanie Meyer should take a break writing because her efforts are becoming too painful sick to read. This comes from an avid reader. Go figure on that one. Happy holidays everyone.

Thank-you Kimmie - that was a full and illuminating contribution. So the young readers seem to be in two minds about Stephenie Meyer's writing?

Apparently, the director of the Twilight movie is a woman - and is the most succesful box office draw by a female director?

I know exactly what the kid are talking about.

I happened to enjoy the entire series, but the latter books were not quite as good as the first one.

But once you get invested in a series, you HAVE to know what happens, and how it is going to end.

There are a couple of authors that I loved the beginnings of their series, and then they started going down hill - but I just kept having to get them anyway because I couldn't NOT know what happened next. And I kept hoping that the author would get back that something that made me love her to begin with.

I think it is probably the same sort of addiction that soap opera addicts feel. Gotta see what happens next!
