Michael Crichton, author of numerous books and filmmaker, died today of cancer.

Michael Crichton dies

I loved Jurassic Park (my first exposure to chaos theory) and enjoyed a lot of his other books, too. The Andromeda Strain was the first I read, I think.

NO! cry

I loved all his books!

I am reading "The Terminal Man" right now. My son had to read an American author for his lit class, and I recommended this book to him, thinking he might be interested in some of the similarites (with Autism and seizures).

But it had been so kong since I read it, I decided to brush up on it so I could discuss it with him better.

My Favorits by him were:
"Jurassic Park"
"Andromeda Strain"
"Sphere"

The Andromeda Strain was his first novel. The 1971 film "The Andromeda Strain" is my favorite science fiction film of all-time. I have watched it dozens of times.

I'm glad someone posted this for me. I always try to put up these kind of notices, but my laptop died and it took way too long to get the replacement part.

I've never read any of the books, but have of course seen the movies. And the Andromeda Strain movie is a SF classic. I think I still have Prey on my bookshelf waiting to be read. Too many books too little time....

Anyway, he will be missed.

Happy Birthday Craig58!

A&E did a remake of The Andromeda Strain- starring Benjamin Bratt and Rick Schroder. They tried to update it (I think that was the reason for the changes?)

It seemed at first like it was going to be me more faithful to the book - then it wound up being some sort of X-Files, government cover up thing.

It was kind of interesting on its own, as long as you didn't compare it to the first movie or the book.

Although one of the reviews I read of it was hilarious (they hated it)
