My dad - who never does yoga - says he's going to a yoga / meditation seminar this coming Saturday with a friend of his who enjoys yoga. It's from 10am to 3pm and includes a vegetarian lunch. I've never been to one and asked to go along!

Has anyone been to one of these? Apparently they do an hour of discussion, then some meditation, then some yoga and so on. I'll let you know how this one goes, but I'm both interested and afraid! I'm not very good at yoga yet and have never done it "in public" (besides the times with other BellaOnline editors).

Our local hospital system has these monthly. I've never gone. I don't mind losing my balance and falling over myself at home. I'd rather not do that in public.

Right that's exactly my worry Lynn! That they'll ask me to go into tree pose and everyone else around me will be serenely balanced like a forest and I'll topple over and knock them all over like dominoes smile

I figured if my dad is going, and he's really never done yoga, that I'll be safe smile

Hi Lisa,

I have been to several yoga and/or meditation seminars, workshops, and retreats through the years and have really enjoyed most of them. I think it's totally natural to be nervous whenever we are trying something new for the first time.

Most experienced yoga teachers are really great about setting up a safe environment for their students and most people interested in attending yoga/meditation seminars are kind compassionate souls! In most of the classes I've taken the teacher reminds us again and again that yoga is not a competition, not even with ourselves. It's an exploration designed to increase self understanding.

I'm sure you will have a wonderful time and can't wait to hear all the details. I wish I lived close enough to attend with you!

I will definitely report back to everyone on what it was like, so that anyone else who is nervous about something like this knows what to expect smile

Hi Lisa,

Sounds like you needed sleep more than yoga & meditation!
