Can you believe it? Thanksgiving is almost here! Whoopie!!!

What is your fondest memory of Thanksgiving?

I remember being a little girl, growing up in NY. And the family would get together and travel to Manhattan to my Nana's house. Oh the smells! And the food! (My mouth is watering from the memory alone!)
I would always get stuck sitting on the footstool, as everyone else was bigger. I couldn't wait until I was big enough to sit at the table with the big people! When I was, I remember my Nana saying grace. Boy! Did she have a lot to be thankful for! Her prayers went on forever! But, I enjoyed all of it. And wish I had a time machine to go back to those good old days!

How about you? What do you remember the most?

I grew up in northern NY state so there was always snow in the air or on the ground. The crunch of the car tires as we drove to Grandma and Granpa's house just a 1/4 mile up the road. The cool crispness in the air as we unloaded the dressing, the squash (yuck), the corn, etc. As my birthday is 11/27 - sometimes there would be cake as well.

Sitting at the "kids table", all the soda pop we wanted, but stuck with the sound of the football game after the parade was over.

Yeah - I would go back and do it again if I had the chance.

Ruthe, would you consider doing an article about how the slaves celebrated Thanksgiving? (meals, traditions, rituals maybe) I'd love to share with my children. They seem gun-ho about learning more about African American history since our new presidency occurrence.
