Ok plant nerds, help me out. I have a cat palm. There is something on the leaves and stems, white, almost like balled up spider webbing. Should I worry? What is this disease and what can I do? Is it even a disease? I need some answers, because Google has not been very forthcoming (and the wife is gonna make me throw it away if the problem persists). Suggestions?

They like a good, fast draining organic soil. Filtered sun light and moist air.

Hello, I'm wondering if the leaves are sticky at all? I'm thinking that there might be mealy bugs on the leaves. These are white powdery looking balls which have a sap sucking small insect hidden underneath. They suck plant juices and then excrete a sticky substance that can attract ants. Also palms are notorious for having spider mites. Take a mist spray bottle, fill with water and spray on the palm fronds to see if you have very fine webbing. It is hard to see the very tiny spiders(mites) with the naked eye. The mist will kling to the webbing and you will be able to see them then. If you can see webbing, then you will need to by an organic spray for mites. You'd be able to find that at any greenhouse, garden center or home improvement center. Good luck.
