Let me start by saying that I do not like geraniums, have never liked geraniums, and probably will never like geraniums, but my Granddaughter picked my container plants for this past summer, so I am the proud owner of pink geraniums. I have been reading that geraniums can be wintered in the house and used again new spring in the containers. Since I have already stated how much I like geraniums, is this worth it, and if so, what do I do - Stick them in the basement or try to keep them blooming?

I had geraniums in the house window sill for years. I imagine you could just bring them in and set them in a sunny location and take care of them like you would any other of your plants. You could make this a special job for your granddaughter when she comes to visit. smile Good luck!

I've also had luck overwintering them on a sunny window sill then planting out in warm weather.

I certainly didn't expect responses so quickly; but hopefully I asked in time. It's getting close to frost at nights. Good idea about making the granddaughter responsible for care. She was when they were outside plants, and she knows they are hers. She'll be 5 soon, so she's old enough. And it's only water after all.

So, should I cut these back when I bring them in?

Overwintering on a window sill is one option. Here's a link to another:

Thanks Austinville, I guess both my options above were reasonable, even my half-hearted one about tossing them in the basement. Appreciation from your northern neighbor, GrannyH
