Interesting concept, Robin! It never occurred to me to associate fragrances with colors. Events, times of the year, times of my life, but not colors. I'll have to think about this.

The one funny thing that struck me while reading your article was Black Suede by Avon. It was the fragrance that my Dad wore for several years before he passed and it always reminds my daughter and me of him. But the man hated black, would never wear it and didn't like it on other people, either. I even wore a burgundy suit to his funeral because I knew he would have wanted it that way. To him it was just a name of a fragrance he liked, no other connotations.

This is very interesting, and I had never thought about color association and scent before, but immediately upon reading the question I thought of Chanel no.5.
I honestly don't know if I would developed the same association if this particular smell was not my mothers signature scent. My mother is a very classic and elegant dresser, and her wardrobe consists of a lot of black, not to mention the only time I was permitted to "borrow" her perfume as a teen was for occasions such as Prom (black tie). I'm sure the black and gold bottle only solidified my association of the scent to the color.

The first fragrance that comes to mind when I hear black is 'armani code by giorgio armani' and next comes "black pearls by Elizabeth Taylor".

I also agree, this is an interesting concept, to relate fragrance with colors. Although many fragrances are named with colors in their names, but it is a differnt concept to associate fragrances that have no color related term in their names.
