I did up a sample using the vintage knitting machine and it looks just like it was hand knit in the round to me. The only problem is the tube size is small. The finished project is about 2" wide laying flat. I guess I could use it to make a scarf for a young child. But then how long would it stay on a small child unless tucked in tightly.
I had thought about making tubes and connecting them for a larger striped project, but that would use a bunch of yarn. Living in Southeast Georgia, it doesn't get cold enough for heavy knitted projects.
Chelle - your striped scarves look Great! Did you use circular needles, or the knitting machine?

I used the knifty knitter loom.


These scarves I did by going around to the last peg and then reversing directions. Like going from hook 1 to 30, then from 30 back to 1 - so they were flat scarves.

And then last year I did the circular scarves by going all the way around the loom (1-30, 1-30) so it looked like those "magic scarves" that you can stretch out or flatten.

We live in Georgia, too. I used the lighter yarns, like Bernat's eyelash yarn and some of Moda-Dea's different crazy yarns. They were really soft and a lot lighter in weight, so the scarves were warm but not too heavy for down here. Of course they were only good for girl's scarves. I don't think my 17 yr old son would have liked wearing a fluffy scarf!

Thanks for the info. We looked at these in while shopping tonight, and there wasn't a square one, so I'm thinking maybe the square one I have is to be used as a loom of sorts. I would not have guessed you could use the knifty knitter for something flat.

I've used the round loom for leg warmers and they turned out great. That was last winter's project -- 10 pairs of leg warmers for Christmas gifts. It gets cold up here in the Arizona mountains.

They seem very versatile!
