Vance,

Back in the 20's (I think) a wealthy and well-known family had a young son, 2 or 3 years old, who was kidnapped and murdered. It took quite some time for the police to find the child. The father was under suspicion. I do not remember the family name or if the father was arrested, found guilty or ???

Do you recall anything about this? I saw a movie on it and also read a book on it in the 60's, I just forgot all the details. Some show on TV reminded me about it the other day and now I am racking my brain trying to remember.

Hi Phyllis,
Are you referring to the Lindbergh Baby? The kidnapped and murdered child was the son of Charles Lindbergh and Anne Morrow Lindbergh. The crime occurred in New Jersey, my home state, so it's always been a pretty big story there.

Hi Helen.

Yes - it was the Lindbergh family. That has really been bothering me that I could not remember. Thanks!

Was the crime solved? Did they find out who did it?

Well, that depends on who you believe. There was a conviction and, I think, the convicted person was executed. But at the time "Lucky Lindy" was so popular that a case could be made for a "rush to judgment". The local law enforcement seemed to just want a guilty party to be punished, but the evidence wasn't that great, and they could never come up with a good motive, so....

There was a movie about the case on TV a few years ago, but I don't remember the name of it.

Thank you, Helen. I couldn't get into the forums for a couple of days so I didnt see the post that Phyllis had made until just now.

Phyllis, I will research the subject and write an article on it in a couple of weeks.
