I LOVE this time of year! And there are some very special things we do that we can only do this time of year!

Going to the local apple orchard and having apple spice cake and spiced apple cider.

Go to Starbucks for the Pumpkin Spiced Latte!

Carmel Apples!

Walks in the Aspen Grove while all the leaves are yellow!

Collecting red and gold leaves and pinecones.

How about you? What do you love to do this time of year?

Pumpkin pies!

Sipping hot chocolate on the couch with a great book on a cold rainy day...

I alway look forward to the very first time we use the living room fire place after the summer ends. It makes me feel warm & cozy just thinking about it! smile

The cooler weather puts me in the mood to bake something. Especially anything with apples or pumpkin!

Girl, it puts me in the mood too. I've put in the Glade air freshners with the apple/cinnamon scent and the smell is so inviting in our home. Every time someone visits, they always think I'm baking....uh, huh. Its just the Glade (smile).

We've just finished our outside autumn decor with pumpkins, indian corn, hay and a few mums and it looks like fall. As much as I can make it, considering its 88 degrees here in Texas. I can hardly wait for the cool weather to get in and stay. Thanks for asking the question. Autumn puts me in the mood to bake too, like a sweet potato pie. Hmmmm!

I like to pack lunch, snacks, hot drinks, water and go on long drives with family or friends looking for autumn colors. Stop along the way in a spot with a lovely view and eat then just sit there in the warm sun and chat or maybe sketch the scenes.

Wow, Phyllis, you sound so dramatic. I LOVE IT!! It makes me wanna try this adventure this autumn. Thanks for a refreshing idea for something I've never tried but will now. There are many lovely views, especially at sunset, here in the big state of Texas.

Hi Everyone!!! I'm currently sipping some hot cinnamon apple spice tea with honey and it's SOOOOO delicious. It's only about 65 degrees out, and I've been wrapped in a cozy shawl for the last 45 minutes. Yumm! And, I have my glad apple cinnamon candle lit!

Cara, I love the first time when we use our fireplace after summertime too! I've got some cinnamon pine cones ready for when we finally fire it up. It's only just gotten chilly - but we have high wind warnings, so will probably wait for those to pass before.

And I was just thinking that some yummy cinnamon hot cocoa sounded REALLY good.

Chloe, I especially love baking anything with pumpkins and apples too! I haven't baked anything yet - but I'm sure in the mood!

Kimberly, we just our pumpkins too! They are stacked by the front door and they look so lovely! And I'm a fan of the glade candles too! Aren't they lovely!!!!

Oooh Phyllis, that sounds so fun! My daughter just came running in here about a half hour ago yelling "Mom!!! Mom!!!! LOOK!!!" I looked and she was madly waving someone around. She finally slowed down enough for me to see it was a red leaf grin She is still playing with it LOL.

Umm... hot cinnamon apple spice tea, it sounds so yummy.

Autumn has not been my favorite season as I live in the raining Pacific Northwest. Even with lots and lots of hot cocoa wink , many people are still seasonally affected by the weather.

I am SO glad you started this forum as I now very much look forward to what this season can bring. Hopefully it will be a season of warmth, reflection and lots of fond memories... despite of the rain.

Thank you for starting this thread!

You and me both Cara! I tend to start getting a bit anxious this time of year due to the fact that it seems that's when my allergies act up the most. So, focusing on the fun things I love about this season really help!

I got a candle yesterday that smells like English Pound Cake! Mmmmm!!!

Yes, yes, yes... Going to the Apple Orchards and making apple pies at home... Also I am from the south so you gotta stop and get a bbq pork sandwich on the way home! If there is a creek near by go eat it down by the creek. Wow how depressing I am in London none of this is possible :-(

Hi Melylou! Aw, doesn't London get any autumn weather, or do ya just go straight to rainy?

We have an apple orchard nearby that is so fun to go to... they also have berries! Lots and LOTS of berries!

Hello Deanna, yes we do have some autumn weather... when it's not raining :-) the trees are beautiful, but no creeks in the city, no bbq, no mountain roads or any orchards...
How nice to have an apple orchard with berries. Down the street from where I grew up we had this little family who lived on "Berry Patch Farms"... this time of year they would have pumpkins and hay rides... I am afraid they went out of business a few years back :-(

It's not really an activity as such, but my miniature dark red Japanese acer in my back garden is so beautiful at this time of the year that I enjoy it every day when I look out the kitchen window!

I love all doing all the things that you have all mentioned. But, one of my all-time favorite things to do in the fall is to make, and eat, soup. My whole family loves soup -- it is comfort food at its best. Over the years, I've been perfecting recipes, and everyone in my family has their favorites. Chicken and corn chowder, mulligatawny, pasta fagioli... we love them all. We'll pack soup up in a thermos and go to the beach and have a soup picnic while we fly kites. It's the best!

Visiting the mountain valleys full of orange Aspen trees, standing in the middle of them and gazing with awe as they turn super golden with the setting sun behind them, tromping through the leaves on the ground and going home to a cozy fire with my man.

I like to go to the Fall Festivals that are held at the local churches. Also, art galleries change their displays as well as museums. And I go to the library and look up autumn subjects.
And of course, I like to sit outside at Starbucks with a steamy pumpkin latte. smile

Are those good? It sounds kind of rich. Is it just the spices from pumpkin pie?

Melylou, we love hay rides too... and going to the pumpkin patch!

Gillian, your Japanese Acer sounds beautiful! I have to admit, the turning colors of the trees is one of the biggest thrills of this time of year! I LOVE the rich colors!

Tricia, we LOVE mulligatawny too! Yumm!! A soup picnic sounds like fun!

Joan, we love the aspen trees too... there's a local grove that we try to visit every year - in fact, we just went the first of September. The leaves were just turning yellow!

The best part of autumn for me is going outside and taking in the gorgeous tree colors. Smelling autumn in the air, the smell of leaves and chilly weather. Hearing the crunch of leaves under my feet. Seeing all the squirrels (I call them all Nutter Butters smile ) collecting their winter dinner ingredients.

Autumn and winter aren't always warm, as we know, and this is why many people complain about them. But autumn is the only season that you can see so many colors at once in many given natural areas, and winter is so simple. Especially when everything is covered in snow, it is so simple to me and gives me the impression that all is right with the world.

Seasons are beautiful.

Autumn is when I go inside and start crafting fall and winter items.

I also revel in the cooler, fresh air.

I love drinking Spiced Mulled Wine Tea, with a bit of lemon in it. Tonight I'm making Shepherd's Pie for dinner. Tasty and warming. Just brought my gloves and hats out of storage. I love wearing jumpers and being cosy warm, whilst out walking around. At the Farmer's Market today, there were many different varieties of apples on offer. Another sign of autumn!

Autumn is my favourite season!

Mulled spiced wine tea sounds wonderful! I like it when it's cool and I switch from cold drinks to warm tea in the afternoon. I try different kinds.

I try to eat more garlic too to boost my immune system and love the squash that are in season in the autumn.

So much to love about Fall. it is my favorite time of year. I love the hot soups and chili, hot coffee and cocoa, and hot mulled cider. Yumm!
I have to say my very favorite thing though is walking in the woods. It's not just looking at the fall colors in the leaves, but closing my eyes and breathing in the spicy aroma of the leaves. I live in Alabama. I made a visit to Minnisota one fall. To my surprise I found that the woods there smell nothing like the woods here. it's a lighter sweeter smell, where as here it's more spicy and warm.
And call me a fool, but I love those heavy over cast days you only see in the fall and winter when there is a blanket of grey clouds covering the sky and you, warm and cozy inside, lean against the glass door or window and watch as the world grows quiet expecting a cold rain.
Fall makes me feel alive though. I get a spark in my eye and a skip in my step. I have more energy and become friendlier and find myself in very cheerful moods. I stop and chat with strangers at yard sales, craft shows, etc.

When I was young it was to jump in piles of leaves. I stopped doing that before reaching my teenage years. I may do it again one day smile.

It used to be curling up with my laptop under a toasty blanket and watching movies. Now it's getting out there and running, since it's no longer blazing hot.
