A lot has been made of the VP pick (Sarah Palin) for the Republicans in the US race for President. One thing Im hearing being questioned is her ability to appropriately handle the high profile job and then be mother to five children (one teen is pregnant, one a special needs infant). The thought is that no one would even question a man/father in the same circumstances. I probably wouldnt ask too many questions to a man if the childrens mother is in the picture. Please dont think I live in the dark ages but I happen to think children need both parents but the role of mother and father are different. Am I sexist? Should the mother be held to a different standard? Feedback?

What exactly does the VP do besides fill in for the president if he is ill? And I think if she can handle the job of a governor it's good enough for me.

outside of "other duties as assigned", the VP is president of the US Senate.

That is not a sexist question. Unfortunately it is reality. Women (more times than not) are the ones who do the majority of the work raising children even if married. The man may help but the woman usually does the majority of it. Just the way it is. I think the more appropriate question may be is it possible for woman not only to have it all but do it all. Somewhere something has to give.
