Here's a news story that is of great concern to teens with disabilities and their families in New York who plan to live and work in the communities where they grew up and attended school.

Forwarded from ADAPT:

About 40 people in wheelchairs were arrested in Albany Tuesday at a protest against cuts in Home Care and Independent Living Centers for adults with disabilities.

The Community Choice Act pending in Congress would allow those very people (and seniors) to access Medicaid to continue life in their own homes instead of being forced into nursing homes. The act is supported by every disability rights organization and senior citizen group.

The Community Choice Act is legislation that may be defeated in Congress due to pressure from the nursing home lobby, according to disability activists.
