I have been hearing things since I was about 4. I used to hear the piano play at night. I have heard other things throughout the years.

Now I sometimes hear a voice say only one or two words, like a whisper right near my ear. Two nights ago I hear a baby crying for about 2 seconds. I never had this happen before, it startled me.

I have also heard footsteps in this house, and figured it was my husband, when I turned around no one was there. I also have seen shadows around and one day my husband and I found cigarette smoke in my "office". My husband does not smoke in the house, he was equally confused. He has seen shadows once or twice.

We don't feel threatened by this, but I would like to find out more about what or who is here. My cats see things and either stare or hiss. I took a picture once of what my cat was seeing, and got a shadow next to me on the couch!
By the way, my husband's mom died recently and she was very sweet. Only some shadows were around before this. We suspect the smoke was hers.

What bugs me is that I cannot get a message or communicate with it or even see. I can only hear it or feel someone is in the room. I can also feel "them" touch me, my arm or my hair, and even my leg once or twice.
Sometimes I just acknowledge them and say hi, but don't know what else to say.

Any advice? I want to use a digital recorder and try to speak to them, my husband said just leave them alone, they're not hurting anything, and said talking to them would be a bad thing.

How long has this been going on? Do you think it's new, or been around a while?

If this were happening to me, I'd probably cleanse my house really really good. If you don't know how to do this, you could probably find a local shamanic practitioner to do it for you.

Personally I wouldn't want to mess with whatever energies are there because I wouldn't want to complicate my life LOL. It's always fun to investigate "other" haunted place, but home is just a little too personal. I'd cleanse ASAP.

But, it looks like, from your post title, that you are interested in strengthening your abilities? It sounds like you are already psychic. Have you ever just spent some time sitting in meditation and seeing what came through?

Thank you. I am not afraid, they have not caused harm. I feel as if whoever is here is trying to protect us. Sometimes when I feel lonely or sad, I feel someone touch the top of my head or my arm. I think it might be mom, so I say hi and thank you.
The other one, just seems to be keeping watch. Maybe pacing to make sure everything is O.K. Because it walks past the night lite or it blocks the light coming in through the window to the front porch. As if someone was walking there. My porch is tiny, I would know if a person was there.
And I believe there is one more, this one scares my animals. My cat Spot has freaked out twice. I don't like that, I should tell it to stop and go home.
I would think I was loosing my mind, but my husband has experienced the shadows, and I got a picture of one. I was on the couch, and my cat Ruth was staring again, something next to me on the couch. I took the camera without getting up and took two consecutive pictures. I see a shadow very clearly on the second one. My husband thinks it's mom.
He still says I should not try to communicate with them, I am not sure why.

I forgot to add. I want to let them communicate with me, so I can know what they want, that way at least I have an idea of what is going on and maybe help them so they can be at peace.
I have heard someone call, really close to my ear, but it seems I cannot direct this to something useful. I cannot control these messages.
Usually the say something simple, just a word or two that don't convey any complete message. but this time I clearly heard a baby crying. It made me jump, I was trying to sleep.
My greatest fear is the fear of the unknown.

Bella_Deanna has a good point. Whatever it is can eminate or open other things, so it's wise to be very careful. Even when we have the best intentions, it's a bit like turning down the wrong street when we had nothing in mind but taking a scenic walk or getting somewhere on time.

The good news is, communication can have positive effects, like you said, but only if you go into it like you would anything else, cautiously

EVP's, me personally I like them. Try to have a fan or some other white noise in the background. For some reason this helps. You may need some software to analyze it though.

As far as controlling your abilities, I would start practicing at home and meditating or possibly find some mentoring.

Controll is of great importance, really. Kind of like driving a car

I was just thinking that maybe your dead relatives want you to have a baby. Just a thought that it might be what they want to tell you.
