Is there a difference between Comprender and Entender?

Its a difference of common usage or local usage, I think. Think of how we say, in English, "You KNOW something, but you don't understand." To know and to understand have relatively the same meaning, but we use the words differently.

Como eso: "Te entiendo pero no te comprendo" queriendo decir con eso que si, que tiene razn pero que sus argmentos no me llegan, que no me compadezco.

I know how you feel. I understand how complex the situation is.

Terrible, isn't it?

I had three years of Spanish in high school and three years in college. But, I also live and work in an area where Spanish is a primary language for a large portion of the population. It's sink or swim.

I do a pretty good dog-paddle...

Virginia has a large Hispanic/Latino population; not like Texas or Florida. I'm not doing a good dog=paddle yet but I do have on a floatation device and hope that once in Spain I won't be afraid to use the tiny bit of Spanish that I know.

Oh Angie!

Be sure you'll have a good opportunity to practice what you are learning now, but you'll also learn new words and expressions!

About the difference between Comprender and Entender, it is not easy, but the sentence Lynn gave you is very good:

Te entiendo, pero no te comprendo.

It means I understand what you mean, but I don't share your point of view, for example.

On the other hand, there are some situations where any of them could work:

No entiendo este problema.
No comprendo este problema.

And, finally, there is other use for "entender", meaning "to think" in context such as "Entiendo que esta persona no dice la verdad" (I think this person is not telling the truth).

Eso es = that is so?

I hear that expression a lot on the TV and sometimes it doesn't make sense.

Reminds me of a billboard I pass now and then. It has something to do with a language class. It reads "SOCKS."

That took me a while. The translation turned out to be "Eso, si. Que es?"
