Or at least his like/dislike of it.
I liked having it dished over the scrambled eggs & hash browns along with the toast/biscuit

Fried apples sounds good. I think my mom used to do that. I will have try it.
Every Sunday the family would gaher at Granma's house. My favorite supper there was her fantastic Pot Roast! The meat was so tender and the vegetables came out of her own garden which Grandpa tended.

I used to go fishin with grandpa, and grandma would fry up our catch of the day. Mostly trout but some times catfish too. With fried potatoes and greenbeans with bacon and onions. Yum.

Green Beans with Bacon & Onions... brings back memories
I remember mom collecting the bacon grease in a container next to the stove for use in doctoring up green beans, whether it had bacon pieces or not.

My mom used to collect it too, in a tin can next to the stove.

My mom did that also. Now she keeps the bacon grease in a jar in the fridge -- I do the same and use it for flavoring. Just the other night we picked the first green beans from her garden and boiled them up with bacon and onions. MMM! so good!
Mom is going to have a ton of tomatoes this year. Looks like I will have to cook up a batch or two of brown sugar chili sauce. I got this recipe when I was in the 10th grade cooking class. That was ... oh...many years now. It is so good on scrambled eggs, in omelets, or with meats, even hot dogs.
