freeze bananas and use those in smoothies.... mix them with chocolate soy milk and peanut butter (not the healthiest but very delicious) or

any other fruit and some juice or soy milk/milk

add some flax seed - ground up

I like the tropical and creamy flavors - with mango, peaches, pineapple

enjoy your new blender!

I start with some fruit, usually bananas, strawberries or peaches. Add a cup of yogurt, any flavor that you like. Then some milk and ice. You can add sweetener if you like.
I also like Lisa's idea of adding flax seed. That would make it even healthier.

Here is a smoothie recipe I use every morning.

For this Healthy Green Tea Smoothie Recipe, begin with two cups of green tea, made with four tea bags so it's nice and strong.

Pour the green tea into a blender and add any or all of the following:

1. banana-source of potassium for heart, cells and muscles and fiber for digestive health
2. four ounces of yogurt, flavor of your choice-great source of probiotics for digestive health
3. a handful of nutritious blueberries or strawberries, fresh or frozen, to boost immune system
4. tablespoon of whey protein-this provides leucine, which spurs weight loss
5. a dash of cinnamon for reducing your cholesterol and regulating your blood sugar.
6. Coconut oil for health and weight loss.

Blend until smooth.

You can usually get a good quality coconut oil in a health food store. I have some resources on my health website too on my pge Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

Getting organic and pure, unrefined coconut oil is the best. It's also great too cook with as it doesn't lose any benefits from using it in high heat like olive oil does. I keep a jug beside the stove and use it in cooking now all the time.

Joan - your green tea smoothie sounds great. how strong is the green tea flavor? I'm not a big tea fan, but mixed with other flavors, I may tolerate it... and your recipe sounds really good.

Here's another one I found in Your Life and Health Magazine from Better Homes & Gardens

2 cups lightly packed spinach
1 lg green apple cored
1 lg banana (FROZEN) cut into chunks
1/2 cup milk
1 T peanut butter

The recipe calls for juicing the spinach and apple before putting in the blender. So, if you don't have a juicer, I'd buy some fresh apple juice. Then add everything in the blender and blend away

Good way to get your greens for the day!

I read that when bananas are getting overly ripe, you can peel them, put in a freezer bag and stick into the feezer, then you just pull out pieces for uses like you suggest.

I've been doing this for a while now and it sure cuts down on spoiled bananas!

I freeze my over-ripe bananas all the time, and they're great for banana bread, smoothies, and even as is! Like banana ice cream :-)

I was on a smoothie kick for a year, and only drank smoothies for most dinners and lunches. I didn't lose a pound! I didn't realize how many calories are in my smoothies, and I counted them as a "drink", not as a meal. So, if you're drinking lots of smoothies, remember that some of them have as many calories as a meal!

Hey, I'm doing research for an article about how food affects your appearance, and Tina Seitz of the Moss Wellness Spa in Arizona gave me this recipe for healthy smoothies:

Smooth out fine lines with a potent anti-aging Breakfast Smoothie.

Breakfast Smoothie recipe:
1 cup of frozen berries
cup of Almond milk or Hemp milk
1 scoop of Protein powder
1 tbsp. of Flaxseed oil

Yum :-)
