The chemical bisphenolA (BPA)In plastic food containers and plastic bags can damage pancreatic-cell DNA,hindering the pancreas's ability to regulate blood sugar. This raises the risk of fatigue and insulin resistance, according to research in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives. BPA leaches into food only when plastic is heated, like when it's micowaved or sits in a hot car or outdoors on a summer day. says Paula Baillie-Hamilton,M.D. Ph.D author of Toxic Overload(Avery,2005)
To prevent this, heat and store food in BPA-free containers like ceramic and glass, or store food in a cooler while traveling or outdoors

Thank you skyhaven - i appreciate that information. It will remind me to keep avoiding plastic picnic boxes and clingfilm.

When we were travelling in London, we didnt even bother with them - just used disposable recyclable paper bags we could throw away.

A big name brand company (won't say who) is a maker of many ready-to-heat and eat foods and sells their foods in microwaveable plastic dishes for customers to heat the food up exclusively in the microwave and to serve. I'm not one to eat pre-prepared food usually, but I have broken down on a rare occasion and bought their very scrumptuous (unhealthy I'm sure) macararoni and cheese. They are known for selling it in their restaurants and decided to package it fresh in microwavable plastic containers. This whole forum topic has got me thinking about the safety of the food once I heat it up, however. They sell numerous products in plastic. They aren't the only manufacturer to package their food in microwaveable dishes. I guess the thing to do is to transfer the food into a glass dish and to heat it up. That would be safer. I would like to ditch the microwave but would use a greater amount of energy heating up my electric stove eye every time I wanted to heat something up. So I feel I'm being more energy efficient.
