OK I simply adore this piece -

It's amazing that in 1960 people wouldn't pay $140 for the ORIGINAL of this. I would have bought it!! I don't know why I adore it so much. She seems so peaceful and snuggly. I can imagine curling up like this in a chair. The dress is flowy, just like what I would wear. I put my hair up like that when I sleep so it doesn't get caught on my face. I love the crinkly fabric cascading around her.

I see this image in spas around here and it is just so peaceful and content to me.

This is my type of painting smile

That is a beautiful piece... however, I don't think I could sleep like that, I'd get a crick in the neck! smile

It is a very peaceful painting. I wonder what she is dreaming about? The look on her face is very relaxed, so I think her dreams must be nice.

I like the vibrant color of her dress. It's a nice contrast to the peacefulness of the painting.

It is a nice contrast, chloe. I wonder if the painting would have the same impact if it had been done in blues, a cooler pallet?

that's a fascinating question Phyllis - we were asking it about "the scream" too. I think the colors used in a piece have a huge impact on the way we see that piece.

So I definitely think the orange glow is a critical part of this painting and that it would seem much different if the color had been different. She would have seemed like a cool (temperature) sea goddess amongst waves, I think, if it was done in blues ...
