There's an interesting story out of Australia about doctors implanting(?) a 'slow drip' insulin pump into the leg of a three week old baby born with the rare genetic form of diabetes known as Neonatal Diabetes.

I was unfamiliar with neonatal diabetes. It is very rare - the statistic quoted in the Australian article was "one in 500,000 births." The mother's story, describing how gaunt her newborn appeared at birth, is sure to bring a tear to any eye.
