I suppose if we all possessed every piece of our family history, there would be no neat boxes for anyone.

Jase - I wasn't saying anybody fit into a box smile I was saying that's the way the forms work. I doubt any human being is 100% anything. I'm half Ukrainian, and the other half is mixed. So I can't even go with two boxes smile

That means my son is 1/4 Ukrainian, 1/4 mixed, then you could say on his other side he's 1/8 Italian, 1/8 Irish, and 1/4 mixed.

At least on the religion side most of us believe in one main path smile

I was saying that each person should only count up to equal one person, that someone shouldn't count as "two people" because they try to check two boxes smile

Ah, but is anybody truly easy to understand? I am sure we are all complex beings. Maybe every one of us should have our own check box!

On the religion percentage-of-the-pie initial idea ... If they are asking what religion is practiced by what percentage of the world - should Jewish people only check the box "Jewish" if they are actively going to their local temple and believe in Jewish laws? Or maybe there should be two boxes? One of "I actively practice the Jewish faith" and then another box for "I was born Jewish but have since chosen to follow another route"? That might be interesting to see how that breaks out ...

Oh Look - Wikipedia has an entire page on "Who is a Jew" smile

There's a whole other aspect to that as well. There are many Jews who consider themselves Jewish but who don't attend synagogue or actively go to services or even practice Jewish law... but "being" Jewish is still important to them.

I imagine that's like the many Christians who say they are Christians and believe in Jesus Christ but never go to a church (or only go at Easter).

So I suppose it's actually two different questions. One is what main religious path in life they feel they are on. The other would be how strictly (I was going to say "religiously" wink ) they follow that path - if they do actually do the actions normally required by their path, or if they are more laid back about it.

It's almost like: 1)What religion do you think you are? and 2)What religion do others think you are? Kind of funny.
