From Yom HaZikaron - Israel's Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and terrorist victims - into Yom HaAtzmaut - Israel's Independence day and celebration for the establishment of the state!
How clever to place Memorial day right before Independence day. If it weren't for the soldiers, there would be no independence. Growth in life comes from transforming the bad things into "good" things - even if we never fully understand why they happened.
Jewish communities everywhere take part in the celebration. What does your community do?
My children are wearing blue/white to school and nursery school. I am bringing in falafel/hummus/pita for them to try. There are flags hanging in the school that the children made. The Israeli flag outside the school was at half mast yesterday. Today, it should be up to full mast. There will be dancing and music - and in my children's eyes? one big birthday party!!! (with no goodie bags)
