Great article, Deb! It does take focus. I might move having a passion up to the top of the list of what it takes too. It takes lots of time and energy to start a business and doing it just for the money makes it difficult to keep your enthusiasm for it.

When I started my healthy living website, I had a passion for helping others live a healthier life. It took over 18 months for me to earn any significant money through the site but I believed in what I was doing and had a passion for it so I stuck with it.

If you have a passion, sometimes you can find a way to make it pay, find a market where you will fit.

You are right about that passion, Joan J. I actually read a study once (can't remember who to credit). It said there are two kinds of successful biz owners:

1--those who are passionate about what they are doing

and

2--those who are passionate about business in general.

That explains why you can have someone successful in a variety of businesses and some who are hugely successful at one business.

I think very true. People who become millionaires are probably passionate about business in general. They can pick up various businesses and be successful with any of them. Some people are just passionate about making money!
