I notice in the latest newsletter you talk about Sue McNiven of Scotland who was a two time winnter of the Longest Thread - a competition run by the Bothwell Spinin committee in Tasmania.
Just a reminder that entries for the 2009 Longest Thread, available at bothwellspinin.com, close on 30 November 2008. Thought there may be some interested spinners, or if not for the longest thread, then for the thread of friendship.

Hi All, the standing records for the thread are as follows:-

Here are the records to date 1468,61 hand propelled spindle

and 1210,92 with a wheel.

Totally stunning in my view! I would like to say I could break them, but I haven't the time, eyesight or patience to have another go. It is a long haul job spinning that fine, and the concentration needed is immense. I am happy to chase my other passion at the moment, taking Masters exam in fly casting instruction next Wednesday. I am still spinning lots though, doing kid mohair at the moment for Royal Highland show competition.

Wow! My eyesight certainly isn't that good any longer and I get constant interruptions from DH, pets, etc. so I sure won't be a record breaker

Fly casting hmmm I thought that was fishing LOL.

It IS fishing. But the sports fishing industry uses fancy, glitzy, and fuzzy yarns for making the flies
I did production spinning for a sports fishing outfit for about 7 years.
