Hello Folks,
My French is pigeon. ie. It's of the same standard as those grey things with wings.
I've just spent ages looking for guidelines on how to introduce myself here. My apologies to Melissa and everyone else if I've committed a faux pas.
Although my name is David, I prefer my nickname of Basil.
This is the very first Bella forum I've written to, though I was once very familiar with many of them.
I used to have a friend called Emma, whom I'd smuggle into my old rented room and we'd stay up all night on the internet.
We met through our mutual concern about DV and will remain friends evermore. No one's heard from her for a long, long time, but we were going to learn French together. At least that was the idea. <g>
I'm a bit of an old hippy. I maintain my long hair, but only abuse my body with alcohol and nicotine nowadays.
I won't tell you my present age, but the first X-films I saw, were, "Le Bonheure" (soft semi-porn IIRC) and then the classic "Un Homme Et Une Femme. I was 14 and queued up at the cinema to see them!
As men go, I'm a lot softer than I look.
Two French films have left me totally in tears. The first was in black and white. In the UK, I think it was called "The White Horse" and in France, "Crin Blanc" (White Mane).
Please correct me if I'm mistaken on any of this.
The second, was about a kid sparrow. I bawled my way through almost all of it. In France it was given the obvious title of "La Mme", whereas we chose the rather contrary (but nevertheless poignant) title of, "La Vie en Rose".
I'm not happy about the name change. There was very little pink about her life.
When that grotesque Specsavers advert went on tv, I made my one and only complaint to The Advertising Standards Authority.
They didn't uphold it, but I will never buy so much as a match stick from Specsavers.
I'll happily repost my complaint here if people are interested.
Apologies again to Melissa and all if I've done this all wrong, but at least I've given you all a feel of what I'm like.
...And to show that I read Melissa's excellent newsletters,
Nouvelle anne heureuse et bisous tous! ;-)
