My husband's doctor recommended the Mediterranean diet to him and when my husband looked at it, he said "We already eat that way."

I love the foods and recipes in this sort of diet. It's so delicious you don't even think about its being healthy or not.

GOOD article. (as usual) But I have a question.

What exactly IS "one serving" when it comes to fruit and/or veggies???

A serving of fruits and veggies is about one-half cup.

For dried fruit, it's about one-fourth a cup and lettuce is about one cup for a serving.

This isn't that much when you really think about it. If you have a large salad, you're getting several servings.

Some people think "5 to 9 servings? I could never eat that much!" But when you break it down it isn't all that much really and it's easier than most people think.

You can also include 100% fruit juices in your servings too.

Thanks so much for all your great nutrition articles!

thanks for the article and the good info on fruits and veggies. I'm working hard to cook this way for myself and my two kids and it's going pretty well.

I've found that it's easier to get the kids to eat the fruits and veggies if we don't have the other stuff around, like chips, etc. I give them an apple cut up in slices with peanut butter "dip" and they love that.
