I just ran into a situation recently regarding Christianity and what it should entail. Usually I try to steer clear of these conversations because my experience is they eventually lead to a sermon of some kind - like you shouldn't do this or that because the bible says...
Anyway, my fiance asked me to visit with a young lady who was dating a friend of his. She'd been down in the dumps for some time and was feeling physically bad as well.
I hope this doesn't come out wrong, but I really like this woman but she's miserable keeping up with the ins and outs of her church and biblical interpretation.
In the time it took her to talk about what started out as general problems in a dating relationship, her faced became more and more deflated and pursed. As she explained the rights and wrongs within her christian view she sadly almost turned into a different person.
Over the years, my personal feeling with religion has developed into, we all have alot of it wrong and a little bit right. There's plenty of grey area to go around, you know? I shared this and added my beief that the difference between God guidance and man's is looking at nature.
Nature is forgiving and resilient and perpetually co-creates. Even under the worst circumstances, it builds. It seems when we try to interpet exactly the thought process of God, it goes through so many filters including personal experience, peers and in some cases even politics.
If we feel like we're being judged and criticized, blamed or when even wars start for that matter, that's not God that's man.
Her face brightened and she stayed for her boyfriend to get off for his lunch break.
I think a good Christian compass would be something we can adhere to as much as possible that mankind has dabbled the least with.
