Apparently, if you binge eat it might be genetic. Here is an article about a "new study" out of Harvard:

I used to have a horrible problem with binge eating. I would binge eat one day then starve myself for 2 days to compensate for what I had done. I have a thyroid problem and a family history of diabetes so I was really damaging myself.

Ok, I'll "bite".... what does binge eating have to do with literary fiction?

Yes, it's a bad pun, but after a few days of seeing this headline in this category, I just had to ask....

I have them labelled quite nicely on my browser homepage. It just helps to read. And my problem is I tend to multitask. It's not brain surgery so no biggie.

I had a problem with binge eating; that was one of my roadblocks for getting the gastric bypass surgery. It would have done me no good to have the surgery done if I had continued with my history of binging and "busted" my staples early on, or to have stretched my stomach back out to the size it was originally!

That was why the psychologist would not origianlly pass me, and insisted i go through at least 6 months of psychiatric counseling for Depression and learn how to handle my emotions w/out the binging first before I went through the surgery.

I had never even considered why I did it. I just knew I would sit down sometimes (usually when i had a horribly stressful day emotionally) and eat until I couldn't anymore. And I normally did it while I was doing something else like reading, so I really wasn't concentrating on the food - I was escaping. And the binging (we think) probably went back a long ways to my rape. My first marriage happened very soon after that, and so did my eating habits.

Hi, Im kara. I have a Binge Eating Problem for many years. I still do. I have talked to my doctor about Meridia (Sibutramine). He wanted blood work done before putting me on it. I didnt know if anyone knew about this medication and why they want blood work done.

I've read that it increases blood pressure. I'm not sure what he would need the blood work for. You should ask him though.

I'm also not sure why your doctor would want to give you an appetite suppressant when Binge Eating is rarely associated with hunger.

I think you need some more dialogue with your doctor or perhaps look into getting a second opinion from another doctor.
