Hi Helen,

Did you get the email I sent you on the pattern for the topsy-turvey doll? It is really a darling doll. I made one for a Christmas present and she is so cute that I made another one for myself to put in my rocking chair - not only is it a precious doll, but a really good conversation starter when I have visitors over. Now my Mom and sisters each want one! I beleive you could adapt any basic cloth doll pattern to make a topsy-turvey, just draw a line below the waist, turn the pattern down and redraw the upper body and head piece. This should give you a good pattern. Let me know if that works.

Hi Phyllis,
No I haven't received it. When did you send it? I just checked my email after I saw your post and it wasn't there. But rest assured I will keep checking back to find it. I can't wait to see it.

Thanks so much,
Helen

Hi Helen,

I did not send you a picture of the doll, sorry, I do not yet have a picture. Did you look for that book I mentioned? It has the instructions in it. This is a lovely doll to have sitting around.

Phyllis

Phyllis,
Could you please tell me the name of the book you referred to in the above post? I never did get that email and I'm on a quest to find good books about making cloth dolls.
Thanks

Hi Helen - let me know when you try that pattern for the topsy-turvey. I had a heck of a time the first time with getting the skirt on the doll. I finally just threaded a thin ribbon into the casing of the waistline and tied that really tight around the waist for both side of the skirt. It worked really well.

I made a topsy turvy doll some years ago. I made two seperate dresses and joined at hem then covered this with lace. Hope this helps.

That is what the instructions in that book say also, Helen: to sew the two skirts together at the hemline. Then I made a casing on each waist, slipped a ribbon thru both separate waist casings and tied it around the waist tightly, turned the doll and did the same for the other waist - it worked great!

The bodices I made separately, like a blouse. You can also make the doll arms and upper body out of the same fabric you use for the skirt, then you won't have to make a full dress or a blouse.
