I was looking up some statistics for an email conversation with my mom (on the average age a woman has her first child in modern times, which is age 25) and happened across this census data in my search. Thought you guys would find it interesting!

This is the percentage of woman who have hit age 44 (i.e. past childbearing years) who are married and did NOT have any kids. So it's not unusual at all. This isn't even counting unmarried women. Yes I know you can have kids without being married, but it's less likely.

I thought it would be higher than that...in a recent Census in Australia, CF couples accounted for about 34% (from memory) of all households.
I suppose it means a fair % of women will decide to have children before they reach 44...
I often wonder about the reliability of CF figures - it's just a figure - it doesn't take into account women undecided, waiting for the right time, still trying etc...
I suppose the only really accurate CF figures can be taken from women aged over 48...the "free and clear" group.
I was going to say women over 45...but then remembered one of my colleagues just had her first baby at 46 - no IVF or anything else - so, 45 might be too low for really accurate figures.

That's a really good statistic, and I'm glad that they used women aged 44 as a starting point. These women are likely to never have children.

I would like to see the stats once they have removed data from women who could not have children when they wanted to.
