in this article I give you an alternative to Yo-Yo dieting

So many of my Personal Chef clients have commented on my ever decreasing waist I am thinking of becoming a Corset Salesperson. Not only that I am not getting back ache after the long and tiring day standing cooking on hard kitchen floors. I feel so much better and more energetic...and best of all i can eat anything I like because there is no way I can over-indulge.

Sounds a good idea. I really have wanted a corset for years. But is it not dangerous?
I know historically women actualy died because they had there corsets so tight! There were cases of bones sticking out etc. I realise this was well over 100 years ago and things must have changed since then.
I hpe to get one for my birthday, not cos of dieting, but cos they look so good!

Corsets are really gaining momentum again as a fashion accessory. I guess they could use this as a selling feature. smile

Not at all dangerous these days. We are not looking at the 18 inch waists of the Victorian era. A good corset saves your back from damage when you do a lot of heavy work and lifting so in a way they are a good- safety- at- work investment apart from being so deliciously glamorous. The slimming corsets are not so pretty but are extremely practical these days. Even if someone grabbed you around the waist they would never know you were wearing one.

If women hadn't worn corsets and petticoats, bodices and shawls etc years ago they would have all died very quickly from pneumonia!

Only the totally vain and stupid would have damaged themselves with a corset. A working woman would have had a comfortable one.

At the age of 17 I had a 17-inch waist. After 3 children I still only had a 22 inch waist. I would love to have a 26 inch waist now...that to me sounds a good size for health and for looks. I would think anywhere between 24-in and 32 in depending on your build would be a good measurement to aim for. Remember the attractiveness of a woman is the hour glass shape and your bust should ideally be 10-12 inches larger than the waist and the hips 12-14 inches larger. Measure your hips first then subtract 12 inches. That should be your natural waist size...you can safely shave 4 inches off from that but I wouldn't go any more.

You spread out considerably if you dress in an unfettered manner as you age. By the age of 40 you have probably lost waist definition anyway and even getting a little of that back adds to your self esteem...A bit more than that and you will be getting whistles from builders again and believe me that too is far better and more effective than any diet. If Dolly Parton can have a waist so can I.

I am small, I have a 36'' bust(fullest part) 38'' waist (fullest part) and thats with my clothers on. I have a tendancy to wear trousers, so I have support somewhere!
So how would that mean my waist could go?
If its 10 in smaller than the top? I don't get the maths sorry!

12 inches smaller than your hips is ideal...busts can be all over the place and none of us have the ideal after 20 anyway!

With the measurements you have given you need to buy a cinch 2-4 inches smaller than your waist, wear that for a while and you will see a distinct difference. Then consider if you would like to go further with a corset.

Anything that discourages the deposits of midriff fat is good for you. The slight constriction, the inability to stuff yourself with food comfortably and the extra warmth so your body can realise it does not need to store fat there can only be a good thing. You are what we call in UK an apple shape...this is not the best shape to be health-wise...far better to be a pear and keep the reserves on the hips where they can be used easily.

Apple are shaped like apples and pears like pears...simple Some are rounder in the middle and some are rounder about the hips.

A cinch is a waspie or a small corset than fits between the under bust and the mid hips. They are very good for initial waist training and also give you support for your back. Everyone should have one! They are easy to wear as they usually fasten at the front.

How strange that women today are beginning to flock to an undergarment that was the basis of rebellion for women in the past. Fortunately, one major difference is that women are free to choose if they want to wear a corset today whereas in the past, you would be made to feel embarrassed if you didn't wear one.

I have to agree that there are a lot of reasons a corset can actually be good for you if worn properly. Most significant, I really do think that it could prevent the "spread" that Fay speaks of. Even if you tone your abdomen, spread seems to occur.

I don't wear a corset like in the image Fay provided all the time but on special occasions I wear a garment that is a panty with a very stretchy piece that extends to just below the bustline. It looks great under clothing and is fairly comfortable. Maybe I should wear it more often....

I have a girdle shaped like this but of spandex -

You can get them here -
http://www.girdlezone.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=llpg

The problem is I wore one to a fancy dinner with a slim dress and by the end of the dinner my stomach was in pain, because even though we were eating small portions, it wasn't letting the food through to digest properly. So while it might be fine for an event where you don't eat anything, if you're eating a meal it causes issues (at least for me).

The kind of corset I am talking about is actually called a body slimmer. It looks something like this (apparently they don't sell the one I have anymore):

http://www.amazon.com/Flexees-Womens-Control-Waistshaper-3939/dp/B0007UON3S/ref=pd_sbs_a_title_1

I've never had a problem with digestion when wearing it. I would think it's essential to get the right size though.

I think the problem was with mine was that we were sitting for I imagine 3-4 hours by the time the meal was through (multi courses and lots of discussion) so the top of the garter was folded at an angle by that and digging sharply into my stomach. So it wasn't a "flat" standing shape, it was a sitting dug in shape. I think if I'd been standing and eating it probably would have worked out.

With a proper boned corset you can sit or stand for ages. It keeps your back straight, you don't slouch and there is NO WAY you can eat too much. These real corsets are laced at the back and can be let in or out so they are flexible, but unlike spandex they do not stretch...they hold you snugly and keep everything under control.
Funnily enough when you take them off after 8 hours you don't just all spill out again. Your muscles instantly want to hold you back in again almost automatically because slouching gives you backache.
