Do you think creativity is a natural instinct or something that is learned over time.

I think you have a natural inclination towards creativity that starts out at a certain level - but that it can then be nurtured or ignored from that point going forwards.

I think some people are creative and others are better at following a structure that is set out for them.

I think everyone is creative to some extent and that it either gets nurtured or set aside for other disciplines.

I also think that different people are naturally creative in different ways. So one person might be 9/10 on verbal creative and 2/10 on visually creative and maybe 5/10 on musically creative. But they can be nurtured up or down from their starting point smile

You like numbers don't you. smile You're very creative with numbers. I agree, the creativity levels are definitely different in different areas. I don't think of any one as being 10/10 in any one area. Creativity is a broader term than just creating a work of art.

I think creativity is something a person has a natural inclination for and the ability - it just has to be recognized and developed. Sadly, though, it is not always recognized or encouraged in our children.

Do you think creativity is encouraged more now than it was say 40 years ago? OR do you think it's stifled?

Creativity covers a vast area. I do believe that schools could be doing more to encourage creativity in youth. One thing that helps is events like a science fair. My granson's school just had one and the kids really hustled to come up with their own ideas and inventions. It was very interesting. My grandson grew some crystals using two different methods, so he had a lot of variables to work with. I think this is creativity.

I do believe that creativity is something we are born with, that needs to be nurtured. I've known women who never believed they could be creative, and end up painting works of art LOL.

And I also believe that in some areas, it would take a LOT to make someone creative, where in another area, it would come easily. So, I think we have natural tendencies to be creative at certain things.

I do believe that creativity is more encouraged now than 40 years ago. Though my Grama was certainly nurtured when it came to things like making quilts, sewing, knitting and embroidery. But I think back then, you had to be creative in a certain area according to your sex, social status and educational level.

Now it's much more open.
