If you can embroider, it would be worth your while to learn the 'crazy quilt stitches? They are so complicated looking, but really quite easy to do once you get the hang of it. I make little pictures out of scraps of fabric then embroider with the stitches, adding beads to the points of each stitch. It reall gives a nice effect.

Crazy quilting can be a lot of fun - and most of the stitches you use are commonly used ones in freestyle embroidery. You always have to remember, though, the scale.
Quilts are a big "canvas", so your stitches have to be large and bold!
Alternatively, you could add some embroidery embellishments to a pattern in one of your quilt blocks.

That's right about the quilts. I love large and bold stitches, but the small ones I do on my pictures make it look quite authentic antique y.

Here are some pictures of the crazy quilt stitches with beads as accents on a small picture I made of an apple tree garden: I apologize for the quality of the images, they are a bit blurry and small. Hopefully, you can see where I added the beads on the stitches. The picture is a four inch round and I used seed beads. The red apples are red glass seed beads.

Like beading, embroidery is like a therapuetic hobby for me. I love to create pictures or designs with embroidery and I love the fancy crazy-quilt stitches.
