I believe that the people in the Arthurian legends were real - maybe their legends are not historically accurate, but the people were real. I have read books on the historical facts and there seems to be agreement among scholars that these people really existed. What do you think?

Well, actually the legend of Tristan and Isolde was in print before the Arthurian legends were and is pretty much the exact same story -

I really liked the movie "Arthur" that came out a few years ago. I remember when the movie was first released, there were all kinds of shows on the history channel about whether or not the legend was true. It does seem that many people believe - and I for one am one of them

Yes it makes sense that a legend that has so much depth to it is probably based on an actual situation - and heck, who amongst us does NOT know of a love triangle like this I can think of one right off the top of my head where there was a husband and wife and the wife ran off with the husband's best friend ... It's fairly common because the husband and best friend are probably similar in nature and interests, and the wife will be around the best friend a lot to develop the fondness ... Heck how about Eric Clapton and "Layla" and George Harrison?

I love stories/movies about Arthurian Legends. If you get the chance rent The Last Legion with Colin Firth. I don't want to give too much away but it is related.

Historians have proven that there were actual people with those names, but they cannot agree on exactly where they were born or lived as adults, or where and how they died.

Joseph Campbell put out some storytelling tapes and one of them is about Tristan and Isolde. It is really neat to listen to it and Campbell's voice is so mellow and nice to listen to. He added a lot of his own humorous comments to the story so it does not get boring at all. I enjoy it.

My favorite version of the Arthurian story is Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It is told from the point of view of the women in the story. The protagonist is Morgan, who is a much more positive character than in other versions, which I also like.
I never stop reading this book. It's such fun to read. If you haven't read this one I recommend it highly.

Yes I like the Mists of Avalon. The miniseries version was interesting too, although of course it missed out on some of the undercurrents and MTV-ized it a bit
