Wow, that is too funny! Those aren't minor mistakes!

My dad is hard of hearing so we turn on the subtitles when he comes over, and I find myself watching them rather than listening smile

Yes when you first see subtitles or if you don't use them all the time we read rather than watch. But after a while you find that the two meld together and you can see the picture, hear the words and read them.

It's quite strange. If the subtitles are on I can hear every word, even when the subtitles (deliberately) miss out words. But sometimes without the subtitles I can't decipher speech.

I use subtitles to watch TV some of the time. Australian accent shows are ok usually without them, but if I'm tired I have to concentrate on listening and that's too hard. After 30 years of only partial hearing (down to zero by the time I had my implant) I have to instruct my brain to listen and not watch. So watching TV without subtitles is good listening therapy for me.

Why don't you check out my article Captioning/subtitles for the deaf

When we saw Pan's Labyrinth it was in Spanish with subtitles so we had to read them. There were some violent scenes that I didn't want to watch - but I had to to know what they were saying! It was very frustrating ...

The typos for closed captioning are too numerous. While at the laundromat each week this is the only way we can get the story since they blast the radio and will not turn up volume.

Humiliate was typed up as three words and it was not even close. My son wanted to see Jack Hanna on GMA and they could not spell correctly the word Rabbit and they had many opportunities.

Several years ago my son who is nonverbal was in the hospital and we had to use closed captioning and it was bad back then too.

I wish I knew how to contact them to make a complaint!

Thanks Lisa for the reminder to add the link. My problem is I don't know my way around enough to add the link without closing the forum :-)
