I am no soap expert but I love playing around making it. Just the other day I made my first batch of handmilled soap.
I took two bars of Irish Spring soap and cut it all up. Melted in on my stove and added a bunch of stuff (goat milk, WILD strawberries, honey, 2 leaves from my aloe plant, olive oil, and some other stuff..) It turned out to be the best soap I have ever made for my skin (I can't use Irish Springs as it is because it drys my skin but this stuff I used on my face and it feels wonderful.)
Anyway, I love to share things when they turn out (heck, even when they don't so people can see what not to do..lol..) I posted pictures and more about it on my blog if anyone would like to see it.

Do a lot of you make handmilled soap on here? I just love doing it and I am sure to do it again. This time I will add some powdered benzion so I can keep it longer. This really is the best soap I have tryed for my own skin. I love it.

This is me again, Dora Renee' Wilkerson.

I just had to come back on here and tell all of you that this soap that I made is WONDERFUL stuff. My skin looks and feels so much better.

I am not a person to recommend anything I do not like. If, you can make this stuff try it! I tell you it's the best soap I have ever used.

I am not selling it. I don't make any money off sells of you or anyone else buying honey, Irish Springs soap, or anything like that... I am just passing along something that I just happened to make that I REALLY like.

It really is good stuff.

Hi Dora Renee:
I love handmilled soaps too. They are a pain to make but boy oh boy the results are worth it! Handmilled soaps with good stuff like those you listed are worth their weight in gold - Sometimes they tend to have a short shelf life because of the fresh ingredients one may add - but who cares. When I make handmilled soaps, they are gone in no time. And they are especially nice for someone with sensitive skin.

I make my own goat milk soap. I do not hand mill it although I could. I have played around with different oils such as almond, etc. as well as various essential oils.
I am planning to make a batch of lye soap and will likely hand mill it.

It's such a blast making good soap. Right now all my goats are dry. We start having babies again at the end of March. This year I'll be smarter and freeze some of my milk that way I can make it year round.

I agree none of the soap I make seems to last around here either. I wish it would have because now I am back to buying it!!
lol..

I did just find a group of people who make soap not far from me. They get toether once in the summer and I am going to that to see what new things I can learn from them. I am so excited to get to go.

Wow! I have been trying to think of what the women in my family (and there are many of us) can get together and have fun with this spring. Making soaps sounds like just the thing to do. I love to look for unusual type soaps like oatmeal and herbals. Oh! this will be fun!!! And adding oils would be great. I am going to get started on this right away before too many other plans are made.

Can you add olive oil to handmilled soaps?

Where would I find a good book on making soaps? I have an old book "The World Of Herbs" somewhere and I think there was a section in that on soapmaking. Any good suggestions on books on this?

You can google handmilled or rebatched soap instructions, recipes, books and you'll get alot of resources without spending alot of money. Youtube.com has video instructions also just type soapmaking, handmilled, etc. in and there are alot of them just pick and click.
