I am a big fan of German and Scandinavian names, particularly Brunhilde/Brunhild, Hildegarde, and Hilda. Any one else have German names they like?

One name I have come to really like, and it may be hard to explain why, is Ulrike. It is so unusual. And Franke. This name came to my attention because of the German actress in the Bourne movies (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Ultimatum): Franke Potente. Very cool!

I like Inga, Agnes and Brunhilde for girls and Albrecht and Achim for boys.

I love the way my friend spells her name too, Nathalie rather than the English hard Natalie.

I think Agnes is a lovely name too.

Some of the most offbeat names I have come to know are Waltraud and Edeltraud. Cool in their individualness!

Fritz was a German Shorthair Pointer that belonged to a neighbor when I was a kid.

Gretchen was the name of the greatest German Shepherd I have ever known.

Those are my two favorites.

Helga was the name of my late husbands' girlfriend before me....uh...not too fond of that one.
