I work from home so I tend to go to sleep very late (sometimes 6am) but on the other hand I sleep as long as I want to, which is usually 9 or 10 hours. So I'm very refreshed all day long and do not get sleepy.

Also I work hard to keep my blood sugar levels even, which helps to keep me at an even keel of energy.

I need a lot of sleep. In grad school I was functioning on 4-5 hours of sleep per night, seven days a week, and it burned me out. For months afterwards, I had NO energy. I have not been able to do that since, I couldn't even stay up until midnight for New Year's! I LOVE my sleep.

I work at home too but get up early with the kids and go to bed early too. I guess I'm a morning person. I like to get up really early, get the kids off and then start my work routine. I also like to walk in the morning.

I've read that the healthiest number of hours is between 7 and 8 hours.

I try to get 9 hours which seems perfect for me, but it's hard to do during the week. It usually ends up being around 7 hours. I love to sleep in on the weekends though.

I wouldn't be healthy on only 7 hours of sleep smile It would mean I'd have to set an alarm clock and force myself to wake up mid-sleep!! I'd be tired and grumpy if I had to do that. I imagine every person has their own ideal sleep number that works well for their metabolism.

I have to imagine if you sleep until you wake up that that is the amount of sleep you need - although if you wake up "unnaturally" by noise or light or something, that shouldn't count smile

I have read, don't remember where, that lots of sleep promotes weight loss.

Well definitely I have seen studies that say too little sleep interferes with your body's health and metabolism, meaning you don't burn fat efficiently. So not getting enough sleep means you aren't losing weight as well as you should.
