I'm waiting on my Blokus game to come that I bought used on Ebay. Meanwhile, I'm trying to get good at it by practicing at the website online so that I'll be able to give guidance if necessary to my oldest. Neither she nor DH are patient enough to sit very long while we wade through the rules and directions on how to play the game correctly.

I bought Blokus a year ago after hearing it mentioned on several different boardgame podcasts. My intention was to add to the games that we play when other couples come over for dinner. The game has yet to come to the table with the adults, but my kids play it with the neighbor kids all the time. My friend's four-year-old daughter likes to take it out and make patterns on the board with the pieces.

As for getting kids interested in games, I picked games that were interesting TO ME, and then sat the kids down to play. My kids are 15, 11, 11, and 9. Some of their favorites are Incan Gold, Bang!, and Give Me the Brain!

We're lucky, my girls are the ones always asking to turn off the TV and play a game together!

My children--now 12 and almost 10--have a wii, a DS light, PS3 slim, gamecube etc, yet they still LOVE board games just like I did when I was little. And they like to play cards too. My husband and I play with them and we laugh, argue and have fun just like them. I think that's key, if they see you having fun with the game, they'll be more encouraged to play too.

I have a better idea... Once just turn off the power.,, tell dm its a powercut!! This will stop them from playing computer games, (atleast for few hours ).. and then sit with them , and challenge for some board games, .. heeh they are kids... and they have self respect, they will definitely, pounce on the game!!
